Richard Dawkins: If Science Worked Like Religion

As much as many Christian folk or folks of faith in general often tend to despise and dislike or even feel hate for people like Richard Dawkins .In my opinion he does make many points about matters of faith that faithful folks need to give some more serious thought. Here in this youtube video Richard Dawkins uses some comedy to suggest how science might be effected by culture if science worked like Religion does.

Thank goodness Science doesn’t work like Religion .Human life has been cursed enough by the chaos Religion brought us.

Does this mean science always gets things right? , no it doesn’t mean that.Science doesnt always get things right , there are times when science gets matters wrong.

But the big difference between Science and Religious faith is,  Science is well known to be about human thought and knowledge etc , and as such it is accepted that mistakes can sometimes be made , as such its quite ok to simply admit being wrong and to then make any changes needed.

Religious faith is very different in that prophets of this world suggest they honestly did receive messages from Gods .And if its honest that Gods really do speak to these religious prophets , then there should be no good reason to expect Gods would need to change their minds. Hence religious faiths lack the ability to simply admit being wrong so as to make changes ,like science has the ability to do. Because supposedly God is said to be the same yesterday today and tomorrow.

However even the holy babble shows evolving morals ,take the matter of stoning people to death . Either Gods change their minds and are not the same yesterday today and tomorrow like the holy babble try`s telling us , or the honest fact is Gods never actually talked to men and passed men divine messages, and it was simply a fact ancient mens moral thought were actually barbaric and ignorant and still needed to evolve.

Religion backs itself into a corner, is pig headed ! and lacking in the ability to simply admit being wrong and make some change and evolve. And i suggest we see this sad phenomenon mirrored in faith followings , when the priests and pastors and popes and church leaders etc are to pig headed and self righteous and up-themselves to allow themselves to be humble and simply admit they didnt get divine direction from Gods, and simply admit they lied and were wrong. These folks cant allow themselves to be honest like this, because they hold on to this lie of God guiding them ! and pride keeps them in deceit.

The holy babble is slowly proving itself to be fallible and to in fact be very human indeed , but that don’t mean the holy babble don’t hold some good human learned wisdom … And in my opinion one such wisdom recorded within the holy babble is that humans who try to deceive will most likely be exposed as the liars they are sooner or later.

Pro 11:3 If you do the right thing, honesty will be your guide. But if you are crooked, you will be trapped by your own dishonesty.

Pro 11:6 Honesty can keep you safe, but if you can’t be trusted, you trap yourself.

Pro 10:31 Honest people speak sensibly, but deceitful liars will be silenced.

Sir Walter Scott : O what a tangled web we weave When first we practise to deceive!

About ExEB

I'm a agnostic/atheist . Interested in learning more about science. I also am an "ex-member" of a group most publicly known within modern times, as the Exclusive Brethren. Whom are an off-shoot of the original Plymouth Brethren group. I'd say it likely my personality could possibly be described as quirky. You know ,as in being , unconventional , unorthodox , unusual, off-centre, strange, bizarre, weird, peculiar, odd, freakish, outlandish, offbeat, out of the ordinary, bohemian, alternative, zany I'm sure iv'e been classed as "crazy" . Many times But then, being born into a group like the exclusive brethren. Doesn't lend itself ? to tend to produce things considered as being "very normal" .Does it I escaped the Exclusive Brethren cult as a 15 year old teenager. Even since that time iv'e been trying to adjust to living life outside the cult. With much of my life being lived within the genre of "wild colonial boy" style. In the general sense of a church-rebel picking and choosing from role models who appeared within-life along the way. But as the exclusive brethren cult had traditionally maintained a general church-rule , of need to shun and totally excommunicate any ex member of their group.Treating such people as if they were dead. Thus this situation developed more to do with my need of following traditionally enforced church-rule , as apposed to it being so much about "life-choices". Certain emotional experiences, and parts of life in general, have led to me adopting a sense of low self esteem. Which is a situation i still deal with from time to time. Through my ongoing interest in science. I find i am able to gather more information to help me better understand my situation. Much about life for me, has often seemed like a massive puzzle. With many missing pieces.
