The Miller-Urey experiment (pictured above) is an interesting read
Lately . Some folks over on wikipeebia have been discussing the idea that inorganic minerals can/can’t produce living organisms spontaneously
One wikipeebia member named fisherman states
“ I just can’t accept that you can turn a piece of granite into a living breathing creature like a sparrow that knows how to build a nest and raise its young without being taught.Just doesn’t make sense to me-even if you took a kazillion years-the lump of granite is still going to be a lump of granite-or maybe sand, but it sure isn’t going to turn into a sparrow.”
“But I just can’t get my head around how you can start out with NOTHING absolutely NOTHING-and then out of nowhere, with nothing to cause it,the whole complexity and diversity of creation kicks off and we end up with a huge variety of vastly diverse species without any sort of catalyst or force that pre existed prior and outside of ”creation”. ” http://wikipeebia.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=351&start=20 (material cited within law of fair use)
It’s an interesting subject.
Id say one misunderstanding within this discussion, may be ? , this idea that “something came from nothing”
Thing is i doubt anyone is really trying to suggest “something might have come from nothing“.Because i’m pretty sure scientist do still think that “something came from something” . Because even if it might have come from chemical reactions . That’s still “something” , right ?
In my opinion Fisherman also kind-of “poisons the well” , when sort-of suggesting , someone might have implied “you can turn a piece of granite into a living breathing creature like a sparrow ”
Not that i’m implying that Fisherman did this on purpose. No i’m not. In my opinion , it seems to me that a number of theist tend to just imply these sorts of things . Almost impulsively .Without even thinking enough about what they actually saying.
If they thought about it more . They might think to admit that nobody is actually even suggesting that a piece of granite turned into a living breathing creature like a sparrow .
That type of suggestion is simply not true .
The natural process by which living things, such as sparrows, evolved .Will likely have taken an extremely long period of time. The transition from one species into another, doesn’t suggest anything about the idea of going from rock-to-sparrow. Such suggestions are way-off-line of the reality of what scientist actually suggest about the theory of evolution. There will be many transitional species/forms that have need to occur, within the evolutional process of , abiogenesis-to-sparrow
And just lately
“A team of Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) investigators working to create “protocells” – primitive synthetic cells consisting of a nucleic acid strand encased within a membrane-bound compartment – have accomplished an important step towards their goal.”
Scientists don’t know everything . They still have much to learn. They even admit this. For all we know ,they may never find out “absolutely everything” there is to learn , either.
But even in admitting this, it still doesn’t need to mean its been proven ” impossible ” that early life on earth might have arisen from some sort of chemical reaction .
People like Fisherman cant seem to get their head-around this particular idea(Abiogenesis). Yet funny thing is, they still seem to find it so very-easy ? to get their head around , the idea , that some God-done-it . Even when there is pretty-much absolutely no obvious evidence of God’s existence , at all
I’m pretty sure ,many budding scientist’s would surely love to be the first scientist, to be able to find some real positive scientific evidence, of God’s existence.
They sure would
Because . Imagine the promotion-value plus the massive celebrity-status they would then be able to earn from it.
Yet the problem simply is this . No such evidence is available.
However they do find, they are finding these ways, through science . That might help explain how it might be possible, that a chemical reaction . Might have been able to create primitive synthetic cells. Or suchlike
They continue to make more and more discoveries about this
Even if all the while, some of these theist might still far prefer, to kind-of ridicule how it takes-faith to have any form of belief in any such ideas.
One wonders. What will they do ? if some-day it ends up being proven. How will? they feel. And will it take another 150 years of waiting, for forthcoming apologies. As it did with Darwin and The Church of England . Evidently someone once said “Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.”
Anyway, over on Ed Darrell’s blog is where i found links to most of the scientific information i’ve posted above. His blog is named Millard Fillmore’s Bathtub. Its jam-packed full of lots of good information.
