Quote :

An ordinary Christian and a biblical scholar look at the Bible in tremendously different ways. The average churchgoer knows nothing of the textual problems beneath the familiar words. Bible scholars, however, consider the book a human artifact like any other. They have made it their life’s work to decode and deconstruct it from that perspective.

From studying the texts themselves, Bible scholars have come up with many theories on who actually wrote the scriptures. These theories provide serious challenges to traditional assumptions on Bible authorship.

end quote (my bold)

Back when i was still a member within the exclusive brethren group. I think about how we never ever had any eb who would be actively suggesting that perhaps we should all purposely allow ourselves to be challenged by these kind of alternative views

Also i think about how even the mere idea of us ever allowing that to happen to us, would also have seemed to go directly against the grain of “our life of faith” (against the foundation of our faith anyways,a faith which more or less was still foundered on ability of maintenance of much ignorance existing safely inside our religious in-group). Exclusive brethren are people of faith. A very blind faith perhaps , but then even-so this kind of attitude is also always been a far more widespread Christian ™ as well too anyways. To some degree (perhaps “more so” within cults and somewhat “less so”  within some of the so called more mainstream christian groups)

Proverbs 27:17 seem to have been paid very little attention. Rather than allow themselves to be challenged. Too allow themselves to “sharpen their own belief” against the belief of other people’s views.Too often it seem to be a theist ™ to far prefer to “keep themselves separate” to just disengage from any ongoing discussion so as to also try in any way they find possible so to inoculate themselves against any possibility they might be enlightened in some unsuspected way, and as such as to also begin to “lose” some part or perhaps even some-part’s of their own beliefs

So that now these days, now when the discussion has finally gone “openly online” . Where by it’s now also become pretty near impossible for theists to simply disengage and shut themselves off

That modern day theist may also begin to suddenly feel really out of their depth, when finally forced to face these problem’s openly head-on

They have never properly prepared themselves for this kind of modern-day practice that was pretty much always “bound to happen” soon enough at some stage in human history anyway (preferring to continue to pretend like perhaps it might not ever need to become modern practice)

If our faith was so soundly based on foundation of solid factual truth. Then why? oh why would we have ever needed to have any kind of real fear of act of entering into these kind of challenges anyway

Certain theist would have also been quite aware that these challenges were there.Yet they still decided it was better if faithful “run of the mill” followers (IE average churchgoer) would/could be able to still remain blissfully ignorant. As such, also in a vulnerable state of some-day perhaps also allowing themselves to begin to look pretty silly (because of it) . Setting Christians up for failure and shame of it)

There is plenty of deceitful practices that’s been actively put in practice

Most people will have suffered in some way or other in their life due to these foolish deceitful attitudes that people (the human flock of sheep) have constantly freely helped allow themselves to be led by

If theists ever warn you against allowing yourself to be freely challenged by some other people alternative belief

Perhaps? that (situation) says far more about what the foundation of their own belief rest on foundation’s of such shaky ground . Such “shaky ground” that it will also require all other (accompanying)faithful-followers to preferably remain ignorant as well too if possible

Perhaps? it’s that their OWN faith is founded on bullshit . So much so that they then are also forced to feel fearful themselves that perhaps you might some day happen to find out about the truth of this situation (Human sheep tend to feel fearful unless they can feel-like the other human sheep (around them) are also mostly-all running in more or less the same direction as where they are already heading)

About ExEB

I'm a agnostic/atheist . Interested in learning more about science. I also am an "ex-member" of a group most publicly known within modern times, as the Exclusive Brethren. Whom are an off-shoot of the original Plymouth Brethren group. I'd say it likely my personality could possibly be described as quirky. You know ,as in being , unconventional , unorthodox , unusual, off-centre, strange, bizarre, weird, peculiar, odd, freakish, outlandish, offbeat, out of the ordinary, bohemian, alternative, zany I'm sure iv'e been classed as "crazy" . Many times But then, being born into a group like the exclusive brethren. Doesn't lend itself ? to tend to produce things considered as being "very normal" .Does it I escaped the Exclusive Brethren cult as a 15 year old teenager. Even since that time iv'e been trying to adjust to living life outside the cult. With much of my life being lived within the genre of "wild colonial boy" style. In the general sense of a church-rebel picking and choosing from role models who appeared within-life along the way. But as the exclusive brethren cult had traditionally maintained a general church-rule , of need to shun and totally excommunicate any ex member of their group.Treating such people as if they were dead. Thus this situation developed more to do with my need of following traditionally enforced church-rule , as apposed to it being so much about "life-choices". Certain emotional experiences, and parts of life in general, have led to me adopting a sense of low self esteem. Which is a situation i still deal with from time to time. Through my ongoing interest in science. I find i am able to gather more information to help me better understand my situation. Much about life for me, has often seemed like a massive puzzle. With many missing pieces.
