People love to hate do-gooders

Sometimes, it doesn’t pay to be a do-gooder, according to a new University of Guelph study.

Highly cooperative and generous people can attract hatred and social punishment, especially in competitive circumstances, the research found.

“Most of the time we like the cooperators, the good guys. We like it when the bad guys get their comeuppance, and when non-cooperators are punished,” said psychology professor Pat Barclay.

“But some of the time, cooperators are the ones that get punished. People will hate on the really good guys. This pattern has been found in every culture in which it has been looked at.”

Some people like to bring cooperators down a peg, especially if they think the good guys make them look bad in the workplace, boardroom or other organization, Barclay said.

The study, conducted by Barclay and undergraduate student Aleta Pleasant, was published recently in Psychological Science.

I found it interesting to read this recent study. It made me wonder. What do people have against cooperative behavior ?

Because i noted ,when studying the idea of mindfulness. The different styles.

That generally mindfulness is most liked, when its focus,is about, finding personal peace within oneself. A more self centered sense of mindfulness  ( a way to forget the world problems, and day to day worries, that might make oneself feel too anxious)

Any mindfulness that is focused on awareness on interconnections between others and oneself ,and even our environment issues and surrounding nature too, and wildlife, and so on. Would seem to be fairly disliked ,by most people.Or at least seems to be discounted as being fairly worthless

Whats with that then?

You can check this out for yourselves if you feel motivated.Let me know if you find much good evidence of what suggests my observation is wrong. Please

Even if you study video’s on you tube, i predict you’ll soon see, that most people watching these video’s, are far more willing, to both like and also make comments as well too, on you tube video’s of what are focused on, teaching people how to create inner peace (meditation that creates a sense of inner peace).

Videos of what are more focused toward mindfulness toward interconnections of humanity and the earth environment as a whole, of what try to teach propose, ideas of world-changing attitudes  . Hardly anyone will ever bother to even like them,or will even be bothered to make any kind of comment on either

It’s almost as if, most humans have already accepted defeat?. Accepted the impending doom of destruction. Accepted the possibility for world extinction.Accepted the idea that rise of crime is unstoppable.  And so on

Mostly all they now search for,to find out, is a easy way out, for themselves ,so as to just be able to live more peacefully, with this .

Problem with this easy fix method. Is the the feeling of inner peace, wont be long lasting.Because people will continue to be bugged with the same problems, of what will just continue to make their anxiety resurface

Time and time, over and over again

Reason this keeps on reoccurring , is because, humans still didn’t help to actually fix anything. All they found was an easy way out.An easy way out what last for a short period of time.

The world they live in, is still brimming full, with problems that are continuing to grow

Humans also like love to believe that humans are aware, while stupid animals all remain unaware

That way humans can mistreat animals any which way they feel like. Can not need to care less about what happens to other people,or environmental issues, too much, either

All the while, many may also remain God fearing believers

About ExEB

I'm a agnostic/atheist . Interested in learning more about science. I also am an "ex-member" of a group most publicly known within modern times, as the Exclusive Brethren. Whom are an off-shoot of the original Plymouth Brethren group. I'd say it likely my personality could possibly be described as quirky. You know ,as in being , unconventional , unorthodox , unusual, off-centre, strange, bizarre, weird, peculiar, odd, freakish, outlandish, offbeat, out of the ordinary, bohemian, alternative, zany I'm sure iv'e been classed as "crazy" . Many times But then, being born into a group like the exclusive brethren. Doesn't lend itself ? to tend to produce things considered as being "very normal" .Does it I escaped the Exclusive Brethren cult as a 15 year old teenager. Even since that time iv'e been trying to adjust to living life outside the cult. With much of my life being lived within the genre of "wild colonial boy" style. In the general sense of a church-rebel picking and choosing from role models who appeared within-life along the way. But as the exclusive brethren cult had traditionally maintained a general church-rule , of need to shun and totally excommunicate any ex member of their group.Treating such people as if they were dead. Thus this situation developed more to do with my need of following traditionally enforced church-rule , as apposed to it being so much about "life-choices". Certain emotional experiences, and parts of life in general, have led to me adopting a sense of low self esteem. Which is a situation i still deal with from time to time. Through my ongoing interest in science. I find i am able to gather more information to help me better understand my situation. Much about life for me, has often seemed like a massive puzzle. With many missing pieces.
