Alexander the Great is like God’s equal

Some ex eb’s are discussing reason for why God didn’t manage to find some way in which to be able to do “a little better” job of revealing himself

Quote:

  • Greg Morris Ludicrous. If it were textually perfect, I would suspect a stitch up. The textual errors authenticate the documents. Tampered is a very loaded word. Wherever something is translated, it is altered. Copyists make mistakes which are then perpetuated. That doesn’t affect the message of the prophecy/gospel/epistle/history or its veracity.

  • Greg Morris In judaism even the errors are copied. Any minority readings which make more sense than the majority readings are noted to be read from the margin not as per the text. Readings that might cause offence eg Gen 18:22 are recorded as having been amended by the scribes.

  • Rowan Scott He waited ages for humans to be able to read and write before giving us the holy scriptures. Couldn’t he wait just a little longer until we had cameras? God is bloody thick for someone who is all knowing.

    • Dan McGurgan Rowan Scott picks or Alexander the great never conquered anything

I figure that its a fair question. If God were a being of what’s able to create our whole universe , then surely it seems strange to think that this same God would then be struggling to work out how to go about reveling himself , without causing the confusion like what is observed

Take note of the counter argument delivered by Dan McGurgan. He compares God ability to that of Alexander the Great, and says that unless Alexander the great were able to provide photo, then this line argument would therefore be invalid

Dan doesn’t seem to see anything wrong with comparing man as being on equal terms with God, in this instance In this situation it suits for Dan to able to do so

However, at another point of argument, like such as should anyone argue than man is unable to create a universe, so therefore how can God have been thought to have created on.Then Dan would very likely then be quick-smart to point out, that it would obviously be ludicrous to bother to ever compare God as being being on equal term with human

Its kind of like “flip flop” sophistry .One moment the theist will feel happy to pose God and human as if they can be looked upon, on equal term. The next minute, they’ll change their stance, and try arguing that human and God cannot be

So, which way is it then ?

Cant be both ways. Can it?. Or otherwise you have a situation what is bound to always sound feasible, no matter whats been said

The debate is rigged to never ever fail

Even although its been based on nonsense

Believers should be decent enough to admit, that it surely seem strange, that an almighty powerful God, of what has been claimed to have even been able to create the whole universe , and everything inside and outside of it. Along with being able to achieve all kind of other “totally amazing stunts”

Can have then had such “great trouble” with finding a decent way in which to reveal himself, to human, without causing confusion

That remains a valid question

God being God, surely ought to have been able to “will” that imperfection within text , of which Greg Morris suggest would help to make a book seem authentic , could have been corrected , by God’s will

If a God would have enough power, at hand, to even be easily able to create a “whole universe”, by mere use of his “own will”.Or would have been able to create man and women and all the animals and birds and plants and what not, from mere use of dirt+deity-magic alone (or whatever)

Then a simple job of just correcting bible text ,by power of God’s-will, should surely then be a little bit more like taking part in doing “child’s play”

Right ?

Even if it were due to mistakes being made by scribes (which is the explanation being offered)

God would still remain more than powerful enough, to be able towill it to be so”, that all these mistakes (of man) would still be remedied, within the blink of eye

Correct?

I’d like to see the theist argue why not. I suspect that their line of argument might have need to be “even more” convoluted and massively complex , than even what the highly imaginative story about the talking snake and donkey, are like

When

Its far easier to just “consider” the option that the story is more likely simply man made ( apply Occam’s Razor)

About ExEB

I'm a agnostic/atheist . Interested in learning more about science. I also am an "ex-member" of a group most publicly known within modern times, as the Exclusive Brethren. Whom are an off-shoot of the original Plymouth Brethren group. I'd say it likely my personality could possibly be described as quirky. You know ,as in being , unconventional , unorthodox , unusual, off-centre, strange, bizarre, weird, peculiar, odd, freakish, outlandish, offbeat, out of the ordinary, bohemian, alternative, zany I'm sure iv'e been classed as "crazy" . Many times But then, being born into a group like the exclusive brethren. Doesn't lend itself ? to tend to produce things considered as being "very normal" .Does it I escaped the Exclusive Brethren cult as a 15 year old teenager. Even since that time iv'e been trying to adjust to living life outside the cult. With much of my life being lived within the genre of "wild colonial boy" style. In the general sense of a church-rebel picking and choosing from role models who appeared within-life along the way. But as the exclusive brethren cult had traditionally maintained a general church-rule , of need to shun and totally excommunicate any ex member of their group.Treating such people as if they were dead. Thus this situation developed more to do with my need of following traditionally enforced church-rule , as apposed to it being so much about "life-choices". Certain emotional experiences, and parts of life in general, have led to me adopting a sense of low self esteem. Which is a situation i still deal with from time to time. Through my ongoing interest in science. I find i am able to gather more information to help me better understand my situation. Much about life for me, has often seemed like a massive puzzle. With many missing pieces.
